Burbank has STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY in its Fine Arts Center and in every classroom. Teachers use the LCD projector, along with a laptop and a document camera as tools to deliver arts lessons. Distance between the students and a theater production or an arts museum is shortened with PERFORMANCES COME ALIVE THROUGH THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY.
music Burbank Students learn the many elements, vocabulary, and styles of music through listening lessons and singing activities. All students study music with a resident specialist and use standard music symbols for pitch, meter and rhythm. Each grade level performs for the school on a monthly basis; and teachers incorporate poetry into songs and plays to enhance the music experience.
dance Opportunities to dance are never lacking at Burbank Elementary. Teachers were trained in Hip Hop and Jazz by a professional dancer. The professional resident specialist gives lessons in creative expression in the form of movement/dance, and incorporation of rhythmic instruments. After school dance programs such as Ballet and Hip Hop provide additional possibilities to extend students interest in dance. Students learn to engage feelings, interpret emotions, and convey ideas while dancing to music or syncopated rhythm.
theater All the school's a stage here at Burbank. Where students learn the fundamentals of live theater in the classroom, gain expertise from a drama specialist over a nine week period, and perform both in the classroom and on the stage on the Harryman Fine Arts Center. Students learn concepts such as projection, blocking, facial expressions, use physical space, and conveying of emotion. Each year of instruction builds upon the one before it, culminating in our renowned sixth grade Greek play.
fine & folk arts In addition to the traditional fine arts of painting and drawing, Burbank students have the opportunity to develop an appreciation of cultural Folk Arts as well. Through our Meet the Masters program, taught by a professional artist, students are introduced to famous world artist and mediums, and then have the opportunity to create similar works in the classroom.
Additionally, students are exposed to folk arts of various cultures, such as knitting, calligraphy, basket-making, and bead work, so they may develop a love for art that will last them a lifetime.
